How to choose a boudoir photographer

There are so many boudoir photographers in every state, so how do you know which one is right for you? Here’s a list of my top 5 things to look for to make sure you find someone who meets your needs!

Tip 1: Does their style suit your needs?

And I don’t mean how they dress - because let’s be honest, 9 times out of 10 most photographers I know are photographing in their favorite leggings!

You’ll often see photographers use words to describe their style such as ‘light and airy’ or ‘dark and moody’. This refers to the way the subject (you!) are draped in the light in the image. It doesn’t always mean a dark space, but generally more about the use of light and shadows. Some photographers, like myself, enjoy photographing both during your session, though I would generally describe myself as more of a light & moody photographer to blend the two ;)

Tip 2: Will you get what you pay for?

There are boudoir photographers who offer a wide array of investment options for every budget. But let me ask you this, are you someone who looks for a deal, because you are impulse shopping, and who is sometimes disappointed in the outcome because the experience or product (or in my case shoes, or makeup, etc) wasn’t what you thought you were getting into?

Or would you rather take your time and research and get to know your photographer, and invest in an experience and products that is going to keep you feeling confident long after your shoot?

Most photographers with a higher investment offer payment plans so you’re able to afford your dream shoot no matter what your budget!

Tip 3: Ask about what the experience includes

Some photographers do all in one packages, others separate into a session fee, and products and images separately. Are you looking for someone who has a studio space, or who shoots on location either outside or at hotels?

Do they offer hair and makeup? How about a client closet?

Does your photographer offer same day viewing of your images or will you have to wait a few weeks?

No matter what the photographer you choose does, make sure the experience aligns with how you want to be empowered that day!

Tip 4: How are you wanting to display your images?

If you’re looking for a few digitals to just be able to text to a significant other, then a photographer with a lower investment but killer work might be great for you!

If you’re looking for tangible products to display your gorgeous boudoir images, then look for someone who offers luxury albums, and wall art like metals or acrylic prints! Be prepared to really invest in these pieces of art - because girl you’re worth it! Click HERE to see some examples that I offer in my boudoir studio.

Tip 5: Privacy

A boudoir photoshoot is empowering, and real, and for some can be very vulnerable! You want to trust the person handling these images has your privacy in mind!

Make sure your photographer has a good contract to protect both of you, and they have a policy of only sharing your images if you sign a release!

So there you have it! My top 5 things to look for before booking with a photographer. I hope this gave you a good starting point on your self love journey, and if you’re interested in hearing more about the experience at A.M.P. Boudoir, click HERE!
